Troubleshooting: photo & PDF uploads

When a photo or PDF won't upload, it's almost always a size issue — and it's usually a quick fix. Here's what's going on and how to get your document into Eave.

Why an upload fails

Eave has a few limits in place to keep uploads fast and reliable:

• PDFs must be under about 3 MB. If a PDF is larger, Eave stops it before it uploads and shows a message asking you to shrink it. This limit exists because of how documents travel to our servers, and it's the most common reason a PDF won't go through.
• Photos are handled for you. When you upload a photo, Eave automatically shrinks it to a sensible size before sending it — so most photos just work, even straight from your phone. iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPEG for you, too.

How to fix a PDF that's too large

Pick whichever is easiest:

1. Print-to-PDF just the pages that matter. Most home inspection reports and manuals are long. Open the file, use your device's "Save as PDF" or "Print to PDF" option, and select only the summary or key pages. A shorter PDF is a smaller PDF.
2. Photograph the key pages instead. Snap clear photos of the pages you care about and upload those. Eave reads photos of documents just as well as a PDF, and photos are resized for you automatically — so there's no size worry.

Both approaches work anywhere Eave accepts documents, including the Inspection Report and Manuals, Warranties & Insurance importers under Sources.

Other common capture hiccups

• "That photo is too large. Try a smaller image." Take a new photo (rather than uploading a very large edited image), or use one page at a time. If you're photographing a big report, one page per photo works best.
• A photo won't upload in Safari. Older versions of the app struggled with very large photos here. The current app resizes photos before uploading, so simply retrying usually does the trick.
• The mic ("Speak it") button isn't showing. Voice capture uses your browser's built-in speech feature, which only some browsers support. If you don't see the button, your browser doesn't offer it — try Chrome, Edge, or Safari. (Voice works in English only.)
• "Daily AI limit reached." Eave sets a generous daily cap on AI-powered features, which resets at midnight UTC. Normal use won't reach it. If you do, email us and we'll raise it.
