Eave is your home's memory, and capture is how you add to it. Describe something out loud, snap a photo, or type a few words, and Eave turns it into a project you can review and save.
What's included on the free plan
Typing works on every plan. Photo capture works too, with one difference on Free: you pick the room and the category yourself instead of having Eave read the picture. Voice capture and photo reading are part of Eave Intelligence.
Whichever way you capture, the draft is yours to review, and nothing saves until you say so.
The three ways to capture
Describe it (text) Type a description of the project and let Eave parse it. On a keyboard you can press Cmd+Return (or Ctrl+Return) to parse without reaching for the mouse.
*Best for:* details you already know, or when you're somewhere quiet.
Snap a photo Choose "Snap a photo" to open your camera or pick an image. With Intelligence, Eave looks at the picture and drafts a project from what it sees, such as a stained ceiling or a worn deck board. On the free plan the photo is saved to the project and you fill in the details.
*Best for:* things easier to show than describe, like visible damage or wear.
Speak it (voice, Intelligence) Tap the mic and describe the work in plain language, like "the gutters need cleaning before winter." Your words are transcribed right in your browser and dropped into the text box for you to review. Voice works in Chrome, Edge, and Safari; if your browser doesn't support it, the mic button simply won't appear. Voice is currently English only.
*Best for:* capturing a thought quickly, hands-free, while you're walking the house.
What happens after you capture
All three methods create the same thing: a draft you can review. Eave fills in a title, description, room, category, status, priority, estimated cost, contractor, and notes based on what you gave it.
Nothing is saved until you say so. Read the draft, fix anything that's off, then choose Save to Projects. After you save, Eave quietly enriches the project in the background to add helpful detail, but your project is already safely stored either way.
Tips for good photos
- Get close, but keep the whole issue in frame. One clear subject beats a wide, busy shot.
- Use good light. Natural daylight or a bright room helps Eave see materials and damage accurately.
- Hold steady. A sharp, in-focus photo reads far better than a blurry one.
- For a spec label or model plate, photograph it straight-on so the text is legible. (To add an appliance from its label, use the assistant in Systems & Appliances.)
- Big documents? Photograph the key pages rather than uploading a large PDF. Eave automatically shrinks photos before upload, so images are usually the easier path.
